Force of Nature
illustration for NFT
In July 2021 I was asked to take part in OmArt’s NFT exhibition in China - in what is the biggest curated NFT show on the planet, hosted at Shanghai plaza. Some of the other participating artists included Gemma O’Brien, GMUNK, Joshua Davis, as well as other collaborators and friends, and I could not be more excited.
I wanted to create a piece about creativity and what inspiration feels like, so it felt appropriate to gravitate towards natural elements like water and fire. I didn’t realize it until I had to write the description of the artwork, but words like “state of flow” and “creative juices flowing” were at the base of why I instinctively felt like drawing water.
As always I started with a sketch of the artwork. After the black and white linework was done I knew it needed more, something to justify its existence as an NFT among the other colorful, animated NFTs from the other artists. So I created the color version of the illustration, and collaborated with the super talented motion studio Four Plus, to create the animation of the artwork’s color “filling in” and thus further emphasize the delicate moment when inspiration strikes.
